Wonderful Jacob's Well Wimberley, TX for Thanksgiving

Just leaving Wimberley TX after 4 days in th beautiful Texas Hill Country with family for Thanksgiving. We totaled 14 people and 3 dogs at my folk's new home to share our gratitude for this past year. Truly it was special to get together and see the whole family n one place after so long.

Wimberley is a quaint community to walkabout to. If you’re into artistic things or nature, then Wimberley is the place for you. We visited the secluded Jacob’s Well, a 32 foot deep hole that is the headwaters of the area’s water supply and a new tributary that forms off the river system of Wimberley area. It is part of the Edwards Aquifer limestone unit.

A cravace in the 32 foot crystal-clear water pit leads to a 140 foot deep hole that extends about 5800 feet inside via a 3-tunnel systems into the underground formation. It can be found on USGS Jacob's Well data loggers for temperature and cfs readings. Here's a picture of the well swallowing me whole!

Navy Seals have used it for decades to train in, and even 14 people have died over the last century, with the last being in 1979. A buddy of my brother’s lives a block away in some cute townhomes and met us each day out there.

There were some divers there the last day filming a documentary on it, and said to watch out for ScubaDudePoductions on-line to catch the latest on Jacob’s Well. They’ve been shooting footage and researching it for 2 years.

The weekend was hectic. It’s tough to mastermind a family gathering with food, 3 dogs, and 2 kids less than 5 years old. But I don’t think my mom lost too many grey hairs. I hope.

Our entire family was there. Plus my mom’s best friend from Chile was visiting with her husband and daughter who said it was the best time they had had in the United States in the past few months. I hadn't seen them since Chile back in 2000 or so. They all enjoyed the things to do in Wimberley like the Christmas Parade, the Wimberley shopping by the picturesque Blanco River, and cute coffee shops.

Considering there’s about 50 other cute hill country towns to choose from in Texas, I don’t know how my folks found this little gem. It has lots of character, and I hope to enjoy years and years of future gatherings there. I felt us 4 brothers really opened up to each other deeper than we had in a long time.

Liberation Realizations:
The complexities of today's living seem to culminate into a hailstorm of tension around the holidays. There were days together when things got stressful; then they would climax with someone reaching their stress threshold as the noise would come back down to natural levels.

It was always a reminder to keep things simple. Life is simple. We brought a whole lot of things out to Wimberley. But little of it was necessary. Humans are an inherently simple species. It was the quiet times in our backyard with the light sun grazing our faces sitting amongst each other that were the best times of all. A softness seemed to touch our hearts and relax our minds, as we’d reach deeper levels in our communication with one another.

Another realization was that one person cannot be in charge of everything. Delegate! I got in this trouble a few years back when I tried to control the whole world with my mind. I would keep tabs on everything in my life, and I’d try to do it all at the same time. But I would exhaust myself, and hit mental brick walls.

Know that someone has the responsibility for their kids. Another person watches over the dogs. And another is in charge of the food. Separate the duties. Then you have more time to take care of your tasks while adding a little Rest and Relaxation for yourself.

"We can't play God with our minds." I was once told this by one of my teachers, Beverly Anderson. We must learn how to trust that others are caring for of their respnsibilites, and we cannot worry over them doing or not doing their jobs. We must trust, with faith, that everything is being taken care of.

So all in all it was such a fabulous weekend! Looking forward to more fun in the near future, Wimberley has a special energy to it making it a great destination for a walkabout.

May all beings be peaceful and prosperous.
